Spring is in the air, and with Easter just around the corner why not dust off the winter blues and add some color to your home with some fun decorations? These projects are quick, easy and enjoyable for all the family, and will really add some Easter cheer to your house or garden.
Easter flags are a perfect way to decorate any space quickly and easily. Garden flags are hung from stands that and can be placed anywhere there is grass, so make for a great addition to an outdoor egg hunt or garden party. Alternatively, house flags are a little bigger and hang from a pole on the outside of the house, so would be an excellent statement piece for maximum impact. One of the best things about flags is their ease of installation and temporary nature; once Easter is over, just take them down and store them away until next year.
When you think of wreaths you may think of Christmas, but with a little bit of creative thinking wreaths can be a striking Easter decoration too! Many stores now sell ready made Easter wreaths, but you could also make your own as part of an engaging family activity. Think about what kind of style you would like to go for; Artificial flowers and plants, brightly colored plastic eggs, strips of fabric, or even animal figurines all fit the theme, so let your imagination run wild!
Everyone is familiar with the tradition of painting or dying eggs at Easter, but branching out with materials can produce some beautiful and unusual looking results that are a little bit different to your run-of-the-mill food coloring. For example, try using chalkboard paint on the outside of the shells, and drawing patterns once dry with white or colored chalk. You could even write short messages to friends or family, or use the eggs as place setting cards at an Easter brunch. Experiment with patterned and colored adhesive tape by cutting it into strips and shapes and sticking it to the shell to create a simple and sophisticated look. For the kids, googly eyes and permanent markers provide a fun way to invent funny faces and monsters, or try applying temporary tattoos in the same way as you would to skin for exciting graphic designs.
One of the best things about Easter decorations is the broad spectrum of motifs and colors used, which means that whatever your style it’s easy to join in the fun and give your home a burst of Easter spirit. Keep an eye out for items that feature rabbits, chicks, eggs or flowers, especially those that emphasise bright or pastel colors. Display these items for instant character, and remember to have fun with it!
